The fees for applications to work, to study, or for family formation or reunification in the Netherlands will be increased as of 1 July 2011, with the exception of the initial application for highly skilled migrants. With this measure Minister Leers of Immigration and Asylum is consequently making the fees for regular permits more cost-effective, as was announced in the coalition agreement. The Minister has informed the Dutch House of Representatives thereof in writing.
An attempt has, however, been made to spare certain groups, to a greater or lesser extent. For example, the fees for an initial application for highly skilled migrants have not been increased further, and the fees for students will increase to a lesser extent than those for other groups. The family fee has also been maintained, so that families with children are spared.
The fee increase does not apply to Turkish citizens and their family members who derive rights from the Association Agreement between Turkey and the EU, nor does it apply to EU/EEA citizens.
The applications for a residence permit that were free of charge before 1 July 2011 will remain so. This means that, inter alia, family members of a holder of an asylum residence permit who come to the Netherlands in connection with family reunification and who submit an application within three months, and victims of trafficking in human beings and of honour-related violence, will remain exempted from paying the fee.
The new fees will apply to all applications submitted on or after 1 July. The IND is aware that not everyone who makes an appointment by telephone to submit an application at the IND Desk will be able to do so before 1 July.
